Brussels, Jun 11 (PTI) – External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with key leaders of the European Parliament to discuss enhancing India-EU relations and received strong support for these efforts. Jaishankar's visit to Belgium and Luxembourg included discussions with European Parliament members Angelika Niebler, Urmas Paet, Pilar del Castillo, Vladimir Prebilič, and Winkler Gyula, during which he expressed appreciation for their understanding of India's right to defend against terrorism.

In a post on platform X, he noted the productive interactions and the exchange of views on global developments and regional issues. Earlier in the day, Jaishankar had discussions with Belgium Prime Minister Bart De Wever and met with King Philippe of Belgium. Furthermore, he engaged in talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, commending her for her firm condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack and her resolve in tackling terrorism. The attack, which took place on April 22, led to the tragic loss of 26 lives and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.

Following the attack, India executed precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7.
