Detained former Russian commander Igor Girkin has announced his plan to challenge Vladimir Putin for the Russian presidency, Reuters reported quoting a statement on his behalf released on November 18.
Girkin, a prominent ultranationalist in custody in Russia since July 2023 on charges of inciting extremism, had on an earlier occasion said he would make a better president than Putin, whom he described as 'too kind'.
He is best known in the West for his conviction in absentia by a Dutch court for his role in shooting down a Malaysian passenger plane over eastern Ukraine in 2014.
