Moscow, July 22 - Irina Podnosova, the first woman to serve as Chief Justice of Russia, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 71, the country's Supreme Court has announced. She had been battling cancer.

In April 2024, Podnosova assumed the prestigious position as the chair of the Russian Federation's Supreme Court following the passing of her predecessor, Vyacheslav Lebedev.
