Indonesian police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse thousands of protesters who attempted to storm parliament on Thursday.
The unrest was triggered over the legislature's attempt to bring controversial changes related to election laws in the country, which could further enhance the political influence of outgoing President Joko Widodo.
This comes a day after parliament passed an emergency motion to change the minimum age to serve as governor to 30.
If cleared, the law would pave the way for Widodo’s youngest 29-year-old son, Kaesang Pangarep, to run in a regional contest in Central Java. But the legislature was forced to delay the vote due to the protests.
