Islamabad, August 25 (PTI) - India has warned Pakistan of potential flooding in the Tawi River, according to a media report on Monday, despite the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) remaining suspended following the Pahalgam terror attack.

The News reported, citing official sources, that India reached out to Pakistan to share information regarding possible flooding. There has been no official statement from either India or Pakistan on the matter. Typically, such communications are facilitated through the Indus Water Commissioner.

According to the report, India alerted Pakistan to the possibility of a significant flood in the Tawi River situated in Jammu. The Indian High Commission in Islamabad conveyed this warning on Sunday.

This represents the first major communication of this type since the Pakistan-India conflict in May, the report adds.

Pakistan has allegedly acted on this information by issuing relevant warnings.

In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, India initiated several punitive actions against Pakistan, one of which included suspending the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960.

The World Bank-brokered Indus Waters Treaty has overseen the distribution and utilization of the Indus River and its tributaries between India and Pakistan since 1960.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued warnings about heavy rainfall across most parts of Pakistan expected to last until August 30.

The NDMA's warning comes at a time when the country is grappling with earlier monsoon spells that occurred from June 26 to August 20, resulting in over 788 fatalities and 1,018 injuries by Saturday.
