Dubai, Sep 5 (PTI) Amid escalating geopolitical tensions, a new global initiative, 'I Am Peacekeeper,' was launched in Dubai to foster dialogue and understanding for global peace. The movement was introduced by Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala, the Executive Director and CEO of Wockhardt Foundation, alongside international leaders and Nobel laureates, against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in Gaza and persistent unrest in the Gulf region, highlighted by a brief conflict between Iran and Israel in June.
Dr. Khorakiwala emphasized at the event that the initiative underscores the idea that the "currency of human value" can purchase inner peace, which serves as the cornerstone for broader societal peace. He stated, "Through inner peace, world peace is possible." The movement seeks to unite individuals and institutions dedicated to promoting this commitment.
The campaign highlights seven human values, such as justice, humility, peace, and love, identifying them as catalysts for change. According to Khorakiwala, the movement's philosophy posits that global peace originates from inner tranquility, with the cultivation of these values enhancing harmony both within and across borders. He noted that the aim is to transform 'I Am Peacekeeper' into a mass grassroots movement to shift public opinion.
The event, graced by 10 chief guests—including Nobel laureates Mohan Munasinghe and Ouided Bouchamaoui—launched 12 initiatives to foster “compassion, equity, and unity.” Plans include engaging two million online advocates and expanding the network of directors and influencers related to the initiative. Khorakiwala later mentioned that the movement currently boasts 72 peace country directors, with ambitions to expand this number to 210 by year's end.
Nobel laureate Munasinghe praised the UAE as a “world leader” in peace efforts, stating, “If we all want to work together in a diverse world, Dubai is a very good role model to follow.” Organizers highlight the 'I Am Peacekeeper' movement as a global grassroots 'Movement of Peace,' aiming to create the world's largest collective of peace advocates. Since its inception, the initiative has garnered nearly two million online supporters, establishing itself as a platform for peace advocacy and social change.
The event also heralded the upcoming 'Billionaires for Peace Conclave,' scheduled for February next year. Khorakiwala revealed the conclave would feature seven to ten Nobel Peace laureates and 70 to 110 billionaires, tasked with disseminating the message of world peace. The aim is to mobilize global thought leaders around themes of justice, love, and peace, given the far-reaching impact of their voices. Previous initiatives of the foundation have included digital campaigns on conflict resolution, educational programs on human values, and partnerships with humanitarian groups providing relief and psychosocial support in crisis-affected areas.
