Islamabad, Sep 1 (PTI) At least five crew members, including two pilots, lost their lives on Monday in a tragic helicopter crash in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, according to officials. The helicopter went down in the Chilas area of Diamer district, confirmed Faizullah Faraq, the spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government. “One of our helicopters has crashed in Thor, Chilas,” he stated, indicating that the crew comprised two pilots and three technical staff. Diamer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Hameed conveyed via a statement that there were five fatalities resulting from the accident. He noted that the helicopter was performing a test landing on a newly-proposed helipad when the incident occurred. The precise cause of the crash remains unknown. This event marks the second helicopter crash in recent weeks, following a similar incident involving a government helicopter in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last month.
