Violence broke out in Greece's second-largest city on 5 December after a Romany teenager was shot in the head by police.

The teen has been accused of driving away from a fuel station near Thessaloniki without paying. Police claimed that the youth tried to ram officers who were pursuing his vehicle.

The officer who shot him was suspended from duty and arrested.

Subsequently, around 1,500 people took out a violent protest march, attacking shops and throwing Molotov cocktails. Police used tear gas and stun grenades to stop the mob, but didn't arrest anyone.
