Cairo, Aug 18 (AP) The Palestinian Health Ministry reported on Monday a devastating death toll in the ongoing Gaza conflict, with over 62,000 Palestinians having lost their lives in the 22-month duration of the war.

In the last 24 hours alone, at least 60 individuals were killed. This brings the current death toll from the conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, to a staggering 62,004. The ministry also stated that 156,230 people have been wounded amid the hostilities.

Tragically, the Health Ministry reported that 1,965 people lost their lives while attempting to obtain aid from convoys or in proximity to aid distribution locations. On Monday morning, at least seven Palestinians were killed as they sought to access this much-needed aid.

The figures provided by the ministry, which does not differentiate between civilians and combatants, are compiled by medical professionals. These numbers are regarded as the most reliable by the United Nations and other independent experts, despite being disputed by Israel, which has yet to provide an alternative account of casualties.
