Madrid, Oct 8 (AP) - Spanish emergency teams recovered the bodies of two missing construction workers from the rubble of a collapsed building in central Madrid on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to four.
The tragic incident occurred when the top floor of a six-storey building, undergoing renovation, gave way and caused the floors below to collapse on Tuesday afternoon.
Throughout the night, emergency crews tirelessly combed through the debris, aided by police sniffer dogs and drones, ultimately locating the bodies early Wednesday.
Among the four deceased, one was a woman. In addition, three workers sustained injuries, with one individual suffering a fractured leg.
Fortunately, the building's facade remained intact, preventing most of the debris from spilling onto the street. Police are currently investigating the collapse as a workplace accident.
In Spain, it is common practice to renovate the interiors of older buildings while preserving their original facades. (AP) GRS GRS
