Peshawar, Aug 7 (PTI) - In a tragic incident in northwestern Pakistan, an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has claimed the lives of at least three individuals while injuring 13 others, including three police officers. District Police Officer Tahir Shah confirmed that the explosion occurred near a police patrol vehicle adjacent to a taxi stand in Wana tehsil of South Waziristan district. At the scene, two fatalities were reported immediately, and a third person died from injuries at a hospital. Following the blast and subsequent gunfire, security forces were promptly dispatched to the area. The injured victims were rushed to Wana Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Pakistan has experienced a surge in terrorist incidents, notably in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, after the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) renounced its ceasefire agreement with the government in November 2022.
