London, Sep 3 (PTI) - In a tragic incident in Essex, south-east England, two students from Telangana lost their lives in a severe two-car collision at a major roundabout, according to local police reports. Five others suffered serious injuries in the accident.

The two victims were identified as Chaitanya Tarre, 23, who was killed on impact, and Rishi Teja Rapolu, 21, who succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to the hospital. The crash occurred at the Rayleigh Spur roundabout early on Monday.

Essex Police disclosed that the drivers of the vehicles involved—two men from east London—had been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. They were later released on bail.

"Sadly, one man died at the scene while another died in hospital," Essex Police stated. "Specialist officers are supporting their families. Five other people were taken to hospital with serious injuries."

The drivers, aged 23 and 24, from Barking, were arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. They are now out on bail until November 20, while investigations continue.

Authorities have called for public assistance, urging anyone with CCTV, dash cam, or additional footage of the incident on the A130—a key dual carriageway—to come forward.

The National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK expressed their condolences for the deceased, who were reportedly returning from a Ganesh Visarjan celebration with their peer group.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Essex, UK, involving nine students from the Telugu community," NISAU UK stated. "The accident has claimed the precious lives of two young students, Chaitanya Tarre and Rishi Teja Rapolu. Our heartfelt condolences go out to their families and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."

The organization added that several other students remain hospitalized and under urgent medical care. "We are keeping them and their families in our thoughts and prayers, and we hope for their swift and full recovery," the statement continued.

NISAU UK is actively collaborating with the Telangana community and consular authorities to provide assistance to those affected by the accident.
