The United States' Pentagon has said that the drone which struck a chemical tanker off the Porbandar coast in Gujarat was fired from Iran.

It added that this was the "seventh Iranian attack on commercial shipping since 2021".

There were no casualties in the incident and a fire caused from the attack was extinguished.

The Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard sprung into action to help the merchant ship MV Chem Pluto.

The incident comes against the backdrop of Iran-backed Houthi rebels stepping up attacks on ships in the Red Sea amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.
