Several people were killed during a coal mine explosion on Saturday in the municipality of Tasco, in Colombia's Boyaca province.

On Sunday, Colombian President Ivan Duque said in a post on Twitter he profoundly lamented the death of 10 miners from the explosion in 'La Chapa' mine.

He said authorities were at the scene to rescue the five people who remain trapped.

Local media showed images of rescue personnel from the national mining agency preparing equipment to enter the mine to look for the rest of the miners.

Edisson Orlando Cardenas, a relative of the victim, was among those waiting near the site of the incident for some information about their loved ones.

"Oh, my God, it's a great pain for all the families," he told local media.
