In a rare incidence of gun violence in Canada, a shootout during an attempted bank robbery in British Columbia led to the death of two suspects and also resulted in six police officers suffering serious gunshot wounds.
Officers were called to a report that armed men had entered a Bank of Montreal branch, but allegedly the shooting started when the suspects left the bank, creating a situation that was very dangerous.
Multiple officers responded to the scene and encountered the armed suspects, who fired at police. Two suspects were shot by police and died at the scene.
Homes and businesses near the bank were evacuated due to the presence of a potential explosive device in a vehicle associated with the suspects, police said.
