Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US, top American lawmakers have asked the Joe Biden government to address the lengthy visa wait times being faced by Indians.

Senator Bob Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, asked the Biden administration why India continues to face the longest wait time globally, which can range from 450 to 600 days.

Congressman Michael Waltz, Co-Chair of the House India Caucus, called Washington's ties with Delhi "one of the most consequential economic diplomatic security relationships" that the US has in the 21st century.

He added that despite this, one of the most consistent and painful complaints he receives regarding India is about the visa wait time.
