Waterbury, Connecticut — Five individuals were injured in a shooting incident at a Connecticut mall, as confirmed by police on Tuesday.

Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo reported that officers were dispatched to the Brass Mill Centre following reports of a disturbance around 4:40 PM local time.

Chief Spagnolo noted that all the victims are currently receiving treatment at nearby hospitals, though he did not specify the severity of their injuries.

According to Spagnolo, the gunman, who was armed with a semiautomatic pistol, is believed to have known the victims, and the shooting erupted following a dispute that escalated quickly.

As of now, no arrests have been made, but authorities believe there poses no ongoing threat to the public.

“We do not believe this was a random act of violence,” Spagnolo stated during a press briefing outside the mall.

The Brass Mill Centre is situated off Interstate 84 in Waterbury, roughly 50 km southwest of Hartford, the state capital. (AP)
