Chocolate was first used as a drink in Central America by the Aztecs. The drink was brewed from cocoa beans and was sometimes mixed with vanilla or chilli peppers. The cocoa beans were so deeply valued by them that they used them as money.

Yes, you heard it right. Beans are extracted from the cacao pod which is then fermented, dried and roasted into cocoa beans. The cocoa nibs are separated from the shells of the bean and ground into a liquid. This chocolate liquor is further used to produce cocoa solids and slabs.
The melting point of chocolate is between 86°F and 90°F and this is lower than the human body temperature. Now you know why it so easily melts in your hand.
