Every year, World Blood Donor Day is observed on the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, ie on June 14 to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and to thank blood donors worldwide for saving the lives of people.

Blood donations are needed all over the world to ensure individuals and communities have access to safe and quality-assured blood in both normal and emergency situations. The theme for this year’s World Blood Donor Day is 'Give blood and keep the world-beating.' The message conveys the essential contribution of blood donors to save lives.
