Maharashtra on Thursday recorded highest daily spike in Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began last year. 25,833 fresh cases were reported on Thursday with infection tally rising to 2,396,340, while the death toll rose to 53,138 with 58 more fatalities on the day.
This a day after 23,179 fresh infections were detected in the western state. On September 11 last year, 24,886 cases were detected in the state.
On Wednesday, the Union health ministry said 60 per cent of the country's active Covid cases and 45.4 per cent of deaths are concentrated in Maharashtra.
