Star Indian opener Smriti Mandhana feels that it is the right time for the women’s Indian Premier League if the game needs to improve in the country.

Speaking on Ravichandran Ashwin's YouTube channel, she said that she isn't sure about an 8-team women's IPL but a tournament with five or six teams is the need of the hour so that it can get to eight teams very soon. Till we don't start, we are not giving exposure to our girls to take their cricket to a really different level, Mandhana added.

Indian women's T20 vice-captain added that since she played in the Big Bash League, her quality of cricket has improved. Mandhana feels that just like Cricket Australia, Indian women cricketers should also get that exposure and IPL will play a huge role in that.

Currently, the BCCI hosts a Women's T20 Challenge which features three teams -Trailblazers, Supernovas and Velocity and is held when the IPL reaches its business end.
