Some of you must be thinking: is PUBG Mobile a Chinese app? And if the popular battle royale was banned on mobile, why not on PCs and consoles?
Well, aside from the simple fact that only mobile apps and games have been banned by the government until now, the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for PC and consoles don’t really have a Chinese connection. It was originally created by an Irish video game designer and was eventually developed for PCs and consoles after being acquired by South-Korean gaming studio Bluehole.
But the mobile adaptation was created by Tencent Games, a Chinese umbrella company of Tencent Holdings. It is the second-biggest shareholder at Bluehole and has 11.5 per cent stake in the South Korean company.
Will Chinese games on PCs and consoles be the government's next target? Even if that’s the case, you should be safe switching to PC, Xbox, Playstation.
