As the last American troops jetted out of Afghanistan, they left behind a vast cache of hi-tech military equipment.
Asked about military equipment left behind at the airport, the head of US Central Command, Gen Frank McKenzie said that some was brought out, adding that other systems, were "demilitarized," meaning US forces purposely broke them to prevent them from being used.
The counter rocket, artillery, and mortar systems, which were used to fend off a rocket attack on the airport on Monday, were kept online until the last minute and then demilitarized, US media reports said quoting Gen McKenzie.
The general further explained that demilitarized equipment included 70 mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles "that will never again be used by anyone," 27 Humvees "that will never be driven again," and 73 aircraft that "will never fly again."
Even though the Taliban may not be able to use most of it, the group now has billions of dollars worth of high-tech US war-fighting equipment, including helicopters, planes and hundreds of thousands of guns.
The Taliban had recently released videos of its fighters flaunting hi-tech American weapons that they seized after taking over Kabul.
