Popular Tollywood actor Srabanti Chatterjee on Monday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Srabanti is the latest in a spree of film actors in Bengal to enter into politics ahead of the assembly polls in the state.
The actor was welcomed in the party by BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and the party’s state president, Dilip Ghosh.
Ahead of the eight-phase polling in West Bengal that starts from March 27, both the BJP and TMC have been roping in film stars and actors.
On Thursday, Bengali actor Payel Sarkar joined the BJP, while earlier Bengali actor Yash Dasgupta had joined the saffron camp. Cricketer Manoj Tiwary along with three Bengali film stars, Raj Chakraborty, Kanchan Mullick, Sayoni Ghosh, joined the Trinamool Congress in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as well.
