Republican lawmaker Mike Johnson was tapped in as the 56th Speaker of the US House of Representatives, ending 3 weeks of political drama.
Johnson left behind other candidates like Tom Emmer and Byron Donalds. The GOP leader secured votes of all 220 Republicans present in the chamber.
Johnson is an ally of former President Trump, who said the new House Speaker will ‘make us all proud.’ Johnson backed Trump’s 2020 election claims.
The GOP lawmaker represents Louisiana’s 4th District and is currently serving his fourth term in US Congress. He was elected in 2016.
Johnson completed his Business Administration degree from Louisiana State University. He then earned his Juris Doctorate from the same institution.
