14-year-old Heman Bekele, a ninth grader, developed a soap that treats skin cancer. The teen was named America's Top Young Scientist for the creation.
Bekele explained the soap’s ingredients ‘reactivate dendritic cells’ that generate an immune response to fight the deadly disease.
The teen revealed his formula for the revolutionary soap. He said it contained salicylic acid, glycolic acid and tretinoin. Each bar costs $0.50.
Bekele wants to limit preventable skin-cancer-related deaths and expensive treatments, some of which can even cost over $40,000.
The Virginia teen was awarded $25,000 as prize money, which he says he will divert towards patenting the soap and funding his education.
