Gaza hospital attack

Israel blamed the Islamic Jihadist Group for a ‘misfired rocket’ that exploded in a Gaza hospital. At least 500 died in the explosion.

Also known as Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the group is an ally of Hamas and opposes the existence of a Jewish state in the territory.

The group is currently the second largest armed-group in Gaza. Often eclipsed by Hamas, the group has maintained a presence in Gaza and West Bank.

Both Israel and the US have tagged the Islamic Jihad Group as a terrorist organisation. However, Iran reportedly funds and supports the group.

Dozens of Israeli civilians were killed in suicide bombings carried out by the Islamic Jihad Group in the 1990s.
