Many countries have pitched a 'two-state solution' to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict. It is the official stance of UN, US, UK and even Israel.
As the name suggests, the solution would carve out two states from the disputed area. It aims for an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.
The two state solution has been presented as the ideal strategy for decades. Many UN Security Council resolutions have reaffirmed the solution.
The core issue is the lack of international consensus on how the borders would be drawn. The West Bank is the most contentious region.
An impending refugee crisis also restricts the two-state solution’s implementation. Both parties also want Jerusalem as their capital city.
