Back-to-back explosions in Gaza’s Jabalia camp levelled residential buildings. Israel says the strike targeted a senior Hamas military leader.
The strike destroyed a militant command centre and an underground tunnel network. Hamas says 50 people were killed in the strike
The refugee camp is located in the Northern Gaza Governorate. It is reportedly the largest refugee camp in Gaza, as per the UN.
Jabalia spans 1.4 square kilometres and suffers from overcrowding. A 2017 census tallied over 49,000 residents in the camp.
A massive fire also broke out in the camp in 2022, killing at least 21 people. Flames were seen bursting out of a four-story building.
CNN reported that the Jabalia camp was tightly packed with shops, homes and buildings. It has narrow roads that can barely fit cars.
The recent strike left a large crater in the middle of the crowded camp.
