Multiple world leaders and climate activists will converge in Dubai for the COP28 – a climate summit being held between Nov. 30 and Dec. 12.
Those attending the COP28 summit include Indian PM Narendra Modi, UK PM Rishi Sunak, UN chief Antonio Guterres, billionaire Bill Gates and more.
COP, or Conference of Parties, is an annual meeting where stakeholders meet and discuss policies to mitigate climate change.
COP28’s main focus is reportedly on advocating the goal set in the 2015 Paris Agreement– limiting global temperature rise to 1.5C.
COP28 will also aim to make policies for cutting greenhouse gas emissions, finance climate protection and make the group ‘most inclusive.’
A ‘loss and damage’ deal was confirmed on the first day of COP28 itself. The agreement was considered a key possible outcome of the summit.
The ‘loss and damage’ deal creates a fund that helps ‘poor and vulnerable’ nations hit by climate change. UAE and Germany pledged $100 million each.
