Perform shradh by offering food to brahmins, priests or needy persons.

Light a Lamp

Lighting a lamp in honour of our ancestors offers them peace and allows us to pay our deepest respects to them.

Offer Food to Animals

Feeding animals like cows, dogs and crows during Shradh is considered pious as it is revered as the most sacred period of the year.

Avoid Cooking/Consuming Non-Veg Food

Cooking non-vegetarian food at home or eating it outside is strictly prohibited during this period.

Avoid Cutting Nails and Hair

Cutting nails and hair should be avoided during Pitru Paksha as it is believed to bring bad omen.

Avoid New Purchases

Do not purchase anything new such as clothes, footwear, home, vehicle or jewellery.
