Sudha Murty was nominated to Rajya Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu. PM Narendra Modi lauded her contribution in diverse fields.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve our nation,” Murty wrote on X after the announcement. She also thanked the PM and president.
73-year-old Murty has authored over 30 books in English and Kannada, many based on her own life. Popular picks include Mahashweta and House of Cards.
Murty is the Chairperson of Infosys Foundation. She has worked to promote education, support rural development, and empower women and children.
Sudha Murty is the wife of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy. The couple’s daughter Akshata is married to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Murty was awarded the Padma Shri in 2006 and the Padma Bhushan in 2023. She was also given the R.K. Narayana's Award for Literature in 2006.
Murty pursued computer engineering from the Indian Institute of Science. She was also given an honorary doctorate by IIT Kanpur.
