IMD issued an 'Orange' alert for Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts. It predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall.

When will it hit coast?

Cyclone Michaung is likely to intensify and reach the north Tamil Nadu coast on December 4 before its landfall on Tuesday in southern Andhra Pradesh.

Trains cancelled

The railways have cancelled a total of 118 trains. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has cancelled 60 trains and set up a round-the-clock helpline.

Work-from-home option

Officials urged private companies to encourage the work-from-home option for their employees in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu.

Public holiday in Tamil Nadu

As Tamil Nadu braces for the cyclone, the state government has declared a public holiday on Monday.

'Super Cyclonic' storm

On Dec 4, IMD called Michaung 'Super Cyclonic' storm and said that the cyclone lays centred over west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal.

Waterlogging reported in some parts of Tamil Nadu

Due to the heavy rains, waterlogging has been reported in many areas in Chennai. Suburban train services have been hit.
