The cost of a vegetarian thali in India decreased by 17% in September compared to August, mainly due to a drop in tomato prices
However, when compared to September 2022, the cost of a vegetarian thali was still 1% higher
Tomato prices dropped by 62% to ₹39 per kg in Sep, compared to ₹102 per kilogram in August
Factors contributing to the decline in thali costs included a reduction in the prices of LPG cylinders (₹903 in Sep compared to ₹1,103 in Aug)
The cost of a non-vegetarian thali, which substitutes dal with chicken, decreased by 9% month-on-month in September
A 2-3% increase in broiler prices offset further reductions in the cost of a non-veg thali, with chicken accounting for over 50% the total cost
