Thousands attended the funeral prayers of a police officer who was killed by terrorists in Srinagar on Sunday.

Thousands of mourners thronged the Kalmuna village in the Kupwara district of J&K as the body of the fallen hero reached there.

The officer, Arshid Ahmad Mir, was shot dead when he had taken a person who had been detained for a medical check-up to a medical facility at Khanyar in downtown Srinagar.

CCTV footage of the incident showed the probationary sub-inspector walking when a man came from behind and fired multiple shots at him before fleeing.

Officials say Mir had been recruited as a sub-inspector in Jammu and Kashmir police last year. After completing a year-long training, he was posted at the Khanyar police station for a few months.
