It was -16°C but for the 20,000 fans in Edmonton, it was just another day as Canada hosted Mexico in a regional World Cup qualifying game. For hosts Canada, the freezing conditions were just about normal but for the visiting team from Mexico, the conditions were nothing short of alien.

Thankfully the snowing stopped right before the game as the hosts ensured that they took proper advantage of the freezing home conditions they punched above their weight to win 2-1.

Canada ranked, 48th in the world felt right at home as they beat Mexico which is ranked 9th on the latest FIFA rankings.

The Canadians celebrated hard as, without doubt, they were the only team that enjoyed one of the coldest games of football ever played.
