A new study published by JAMA Open Networks has found that a deficiency of vitamin D in the body can increase your likelihood of the contracting the novel coronavirus by 77% compared to people with sufficient levels of the nutrient. 

The study of over 500 people found that vitamin D plays a key role in a person's adaptive and innate immunity. Experts say that vitamin D can also prevent excess inflammation caused by infections. 

If you're not able to get out and soak the sunshine vitamin naturally, here are some foods you can add to your diet. Fatty fish, seafood and egg yolks are the best sources for this nutrient. If you want to go the plant-based way, add lots of mushrooms to your regular diet to get your vitamin D.
