US proposes 25% tax on some Indian goods as a retaliation to 2% digital tax

40 Indian products including shrimps, basmati rice,wood furniture, gold and silver item will face tariffs up to 25%, this is a retaliation move from the United States to India’s decision of imposing digital services taxon non-resident e-commerce operators.


Companies affected by the equalisation levy or 2% digital tax include Google, Amazon, Linkedin and Facebook

The value of the digital services tax payable by US-based commerce operators groups to India will be approximately $55 million per year, the US Trade Representative office indicated that the retaliatory tariffs could add up to the amount.
