In the latest mass shooting in the US, an employee shot dead at least eight people at a rail yard in California on Wednesday, police said.
The suspect also died and several others suffered major injuries in the incident at the public transit maintenance yard in San Jose, according to the police.
Local officials said the shooting took place at a union meeting, with at least 80 staff on site at the time.
White House deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the US is suffering from an epidemic of gun violence and called on the Congress to pass the long-awaited gun control reforms.
