A Delhi Court on Thursday sent former JNU student Umar Khalid to judicial custody till 22nd October in connection with his alleged role in the riots that rocked the national capital in February this year. He has been booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) by Special Cell of Delhi Police. In the FIR, police claimed that the communal violence was a "premeditated conspiracy" which was allegedly hatched by Khalid and others. The police chargesheet mentions that one of the witness said ‘Umar Khalid gave provocative speeches at anti-CAA/NRC sit-ins and mobilized people.’
