UK set to ban its 'puppy farms' with new Lucy's Law

The UK is going to take a stern stance on the so-called 'puppy farms' in England. Known an Lucy's Law, the legislation will ban the sale of kittens and puppies from third parties. Buyers will need to deal with breeders directly. This crackdown is an attempt to curb the smuggling of animals for sale in and around England who have been doing so under the guise of the Pet Travel Scheme. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said that the ban will come into force on 6th of April next year, and will be confirmed in Westminster today. The law is named after Lucy, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who died in 2016 after being poorly treated on a puppy farm.
