The UK government on Friday called on China to allow the United Nations unfettered access to Xinjiang province where Beijing has been accused of oppression of Muslim Uighurs community. The Boris Johnson govt has said that there is “compelling evidence of systemic human rights violations in Xinjiang”. China has been accused of forcibly putting thousands of Uighur Muslims in detention camps without trial. Beijing calls these "re-education" camps to combat extremism.
