European Football Association on Thursday announced the scrapping of the away goal rule, that has been in place since 1965.
UEFA in its statement said that the away goal rule will now no longer be used to decide knockout ties, and will be abolished from European competitions starting 2021-22 season.
Calling it unfair, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said that the rule runs counter to its original purpose and prevents teams from playing attacking football.
