In a bid to eliminate trans fats from cooking oils and food products, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India announced recently that bakeries, sweet shops and other food operators can now use 'trans fat free' logos on their products as an indicator of food safety. The logo can be applied on products that use trans-fat free oils or have industrial trans-fat less than 0.2 grams. The use of trans-fat free logo is voluntary.
