A lot was expected from the strong Indian shooting contingent at Tokyo 2020 Olympics. A 15-member contingent landed in Japan to make amends for what they did in Rio 2016 where just 2 shooters made it to the final rounds.
But the dismal performance in Tokyo now casts a doubt over the tall claims of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), the governing body for the sport in India. The top prospects failed to deliver as most didn't even go past the qualification rounds in Tokyo as reports of internal factionalism started appearing.

Raninder Singh, President of NRAI confirmed that there is trouble brewing in the camp and the shooters didn't work well in tandem with their coaches as the top boss now wants a complete overhaul of the coaching system. Defending the shooters, Raninder added that most of the shooters are 19-year-olds and have fallen prey to the infamous Olympic pressure.
But perhaps making a sweeping statement like this with a few events still left to be played leaves a sour taste in the mouth of those who know that one of the few constants from Rio 2016 & Tokyo 2020 was the management including President Raninder Singh.
