Tokyo Olympic Centre opens after 7-month delay

Tokyo Aquatic Centre, the new swimming and diving venue for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics was inaugurated by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike on Saturday. The newly build permanent venue was completely constructed in February itself, but its opening was delayed due to the pandemic. Japanese swimming star Rikako Ikee who is making a competitive comeback after being diagnosed with leukaemia last year took the ceremonial first plunge into the pool. The venue will host artistic swimming, diving and swimming for the Tokyo Summer Games that are scheduled to begin from 23 July 2021 to 8th August 2021.
