International Plastic Bag Free Day 2021: How many times do you say no to plastic bags when you go out shopping? Have you ever stopped to consider the damage caused to the environment every time you use or throw around a plastic bag? It is now time to go plastic-free!
Observed on July 03rd, the International Plastic Bag Free Day is a global initiative that aims at increasing awareness about the environmental issues caused by the use of plastic bags. The day looks at building a realisation that if we all come together then a plastic-free world is possible to create.

Plastic bags originated in 1965 and have been in use ever since. Depending on the type of plastic that is being used, bags made of plastic can take around 100 to 500 years to disintegrate and decompose. Especially single-use plastic bags which can be seen littered around everywhere are slowly choking up the environment.

In order to limit the usage, several countries have put a ban on the use of plastic bags. A ban of this kind is also followed by a fine.

But there are several other measures that one can take on their own in order to reduce the use and make a difference. You can begin by saying NO to plastic bags even if it is free of cost. It is better to use a reusable bag made of cloth or jute every time you go out shopping.
