Oregon resident Whitney Rutz is spreading cheer and raising funds, one giant cinnamon roll at a time. It initially began as as a way to cheer herself up but ended up lifting the spirits of so many others including healthcare workers. She began by auctioning off the first roll for $300. Now, she bakes a massive, 12-inch-roll that weighs over two kilograms for every $500 raised. The person who contributes the highest in a day decides where the rolls go. Rutz's rolls have raised over $35,000 for the Oregon Food Bank enough for more than 105,000 meals. A majority of rolls have been delivered to hospitals, in boxes designed by her husband, who is a painter. The rolls left nurses, striving tirelessly to fight the pandemic, in tears of joy after a rough shift.
