Scientists from the University of California used artificial intelligence and genetic engineering techniques to design a device that detects serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that regulates bodily functions including sleep. The sensor was found to be accurate when tested on mice. Researchers found that it was also capable of monitoring changes in serotonin signals caused by drugs. The sensor Called OpuBC lights up as soon as it detects serotonin.
