Hand sanitisers have become the need of the hour in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is absolutely important to know which one to pick when you've got a range of sanitisers to choose from.

According to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, a sanitiser should contain at least 60 percent of ethyl alcohol or 70 percent of isopropyl alcohol. Some other ingredients that have been approved by the Federal agency include sterile distilled water, hydrogen peroxide and glycerin.

The FDA has asked to avoid sanitisers that use toxic substances like methanol. Watch out for sanitisers packed in food and drink containers.

It is better to avoid making hand sanitisers at home yourself as incorrect ingredients or chemicals could have devastating consequences.

Experts also believe that hand sanitisers must only be used when hand washing is absolutely impossible.
